BOOK SERIES DESIGN

These fun and colorful books we created for 826 Valencia's after-school program at Buena Vista Horace Mann (BVHM). Each semester, we published a collection of students’ writing from third, fourth, and fifth grades.

When creating this series, our goal was to create a look and feel that was fun, innocent, and easy to recreate. We used a flat and simple illustration style that could be done by most of our freelance designers. In regards to the typography, we paired a nice and clean sans serif for the main tittles with a warm and friendly script and a serif for the subheads and body copy. We picked a bright color palette and a glossy finish for the covers. Like in most of our publications, the title, cover design, and illustrations were inspired by the students' writing.

As the creative leader, I worked closely with the team on design of the series’ template and the following volumes. I hired the graphic designers and worked closely with the team on the design and production of each book.
